Public discussion of casino gambling with Tom Grey.
by E.J. Pagel.
Tom Grey, Executive Director of the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling was featured at a public discussion of the casino gambling issue at the December 2nd meeting of the Rockford Area Libertarians at Villa Di Roma Restaurant. Invitations were extended to candidates and elected officials, but none attended. There were several citizens besides our regular group, and TV reporters from all three local stations. Tom Grey and our chairman, John Huwe were interviewed. Articles and literature were passed around, and the most important point that was made is that in order for government to gain $9 million in revenue, gamblers would have to lose $140 million. It was also noted that St. Louis Area Libertarians joined with NCALG to defeat a referendum for a casino there, because they felt it was simply a sweet deal for developers and also enabled government to exert more control over its "subjects."
