Rockford, IL- An International Moment of Silence for Peace in the Balkans is planned for next Monday, and Rockford area residents will be able to attend a local observation on May 24th at 11 AM. Local organizer Tim Huwe said, "it sounded like a great idea, and I wanted to let people participate in Rockford. I want to open this up to everyone in town."

Organized on the Internet at http://momentofsilen ce.org, it is "two minutes of silence for peace in the balkans," and "a gesture of peace and goodwill for all men, women, and children."

"While the two minutes of silence will be held promptly from 11-11:02 AM, Haight Park has been reserved from 10 AM until noon to allow for attendees to express their thoughts with each other and walk across the river and back as a group," concluded Huwe. "It is my hope that all of Rockford is informed so they can observe the moment of silence at home, work, school, or downtown."
