Rockford, IL- "How does Rockford seek to create
a grocery store on South Main Street?" asks local
Libertarian Party Chairman John Huwe. "By evicting a
successful grocery store and a number of other businesses
and homeowners as well."
"Los Torres Market is the American Dream in action,"
noted Huwe. "The Torres family started small small at a
modest site, thrived, and moved to a bigger one. How are
they rewarded? By the city council and the mayor deciding
to have them evicted, by a unanimous vote."
"Using eminent domain, the city will leave them with
two options," Huwe continued. "Neither is good. They can
move, either to their old location or to one near a
railroad station and away from people. Or they can remain
with a restriction on what they can sell. They would be
the only grocery store in America not selling meat or
produce."
"We all seek a thriving southwest side of Rockford,"
concluded Huwe. "Abusing businesses who creat jobs
without government assistance isn't a good way to create
prosperity for anyone but power-hungry
bureaucrats."
